Sonoma County Regional Parks preserves irreplaceable natural and cultural resources across more than 50 parks and beaches, from Petaluma to Gualala and Sonoma to Bodega Bay. Whether you’re looking to hike through towering redwoods, camp along the rugged Pacific coast, paddle on pristine lakes, or enjoy a family picnic under oak trees, our regional parks offer something for everyone.


The parks are open for day use 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset, unless temporarily closed due to weather conditions. With over 150 miles of trails beckoning visitors to walk, hike, run, ride a bike or horse, or simply spend time in nature, these parks provide a boost for body, mind, and emotional wellbeing.

Sonoma County Regional Parks feature more than 200 year-round campsites on the Sonoma Coast and in the heart of Wine Country. Reservations are required and can be made up to 6 months in advance.

Trail Difficulty Guide

Easy Trails (Under 3 miles, relatively flat)

Perfect for families and casual walkers. Popular easy trails can be found at Sonoma Valley Regional Park (Valley of the Moon Trail), Spring Lake (paved loop trail), Crane Creek, Riverfront, and Ragle Ranch regional parks.

Moderate Trails (3-5 miles, some hills)

Great for those seeking a bit more challenge without being too strenuous. Try trails at Helen Putnam Regional Park, Foothill Regional Park, Shiloh Ranch, and portions of Taylor Mountain.

Challenging Trails (3+ miles, steep climbs)

For experienced hikers in good physical condition. Hood Mountain Regional Park offers the most challenging trails with 19 miles of rugged terrain and over 1,000 feet of elevation gain to the summit.

Park Hours & Fees

  • Parks open daily from sunrise to sunset
  • Day use parking: $8 (fall/winter/spring), $10 (summer)
  • Vehicles with 9+ passengers: $1.00 per person
  • Dogs allowed on leash (6 feet max) – $2 fee at some locations
  • Annual passes available for frequent visitors

Safety Tips

  • Coastal beaches can have dangerous surf and sleeper waves
  • Always check weather conditions before visiting
  • Carry plenty of water, especially on longer hikes
  • Watch for poison oak on trails
  • Stay on designated trails to protect habitat
  • Pack out all trash – Leave No Trace principles apply

Accessibility

Many parks feature ADA-accessible trails, picnic areas, and facilities. Spring Lake and Sonoma Valley Regional Parks have fully paved accessible trails. Beach wheelchairs are available at some coastal parks including Doran Regional Park.
